Rachel Romano
Founder & CEO
Compelled by the need to address the chronic challenges of the city’s middle schools, Rachel Romano founded Veritas Prep Charter School in 2012. Prior to founding Veritas Prep, Ms. Romano was the principal and executive director of the Christa McAuliffe Regional Charter School, where she led the school to achieve consistent gains in student achievement and increased enrollment by 62%.
A certified principal and English teacher in Massachusetts, Ms. Romano spent six years working in Springfield Public Schools as a teacher and school leader. She earned a B.S. in journalism from Syracuse University and an M.Ed. in education administration from the University of Massachusetts. Ms. Romano was a 2010 Fellow with Building Excellent Schools.
Dr. Jonathan Swan
Chief Operating Officer
Jonathan joined the team at Veritas Prep in 2018. Jonathan began his career in education as a high school history teacher in Springfield, Massachusetts. After spending time teaching History and Social Studies at the high school and then middle level, he went on to become a middle school assistant principal, and middle school principal.
As a middle school principal, Jonathan gained experience in school turnaround and led a team of educators in improving student performance for four consecutive years. Jonathan worked as a central office administrator for the Hartford Public Schools from 2010 to 2018, and worked in various roles supporting school redesign and leadership development. As the Assistant Superintendent and Chief School Improvement Officer, Jonathan oversaw the district’s systems for developing the instructional leadership capacity of school leaders as one of the key levers in the district’s school improvement efforts.
Jonathan received his PhD from Lesley University’s Graduate School of Education, and his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Springfield College.
Amy Clark
Chief Academic Officer
Amy Clark joined the Veritas Prep team in 2012 as the founding math teacher. She became the school’s first assistant principal in 2015 before taking the helm as principal in 2018.
As a teacher, Mrs. Clark increased proficiency rates of her scholars by more than 30% and, under her leadership, the school reduced suspension rates by more than 60%. She is a graduate of Bryant University with a degree in marketing and management, and served as a former Teach For America corps member in Detroit, Michigan.

Veritas Prep is a tuition-free, nonselective public charter school. Any student in Springfield can apply to Veritas Prep’s middle school and high school. Students are chosen via a lottery process held each year.
