Veritas Prep Teacher Requirements: MTELs, SEI Endorsement, and Others
Special Education Teachers
Special education teachers are qualified to teach independently if they hold one of the following qualifications for the appropriate grade and severity level:
- MA special education license or equivalent issued by another state; or
- Documented completion of an approved undergraduate or graduate program in special education
ESL Teachers
All ESL teachers or teachers of EL students must have obtained a MA educator license in:
- English as a Second Language (ESL); or
- English Language Learner (ELL); or
- Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) endorsement
Other Teachers
All subject-matter teachers must pass the Communications and Literacy MTEL (Reading and Writing) and the MTEL in their subject area.
School Counselors
School counselors must hold appropriate licenses issued by Massachusetts Board of Registration of Social Work or Massachusetts Board of Allied Mental Health Professionals (LMHC, LICSW, etc.). A DESE license as School Adjustment Counselor is not required.
Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement
All core academic teachers must earn the SEI Endorsement through a DESE-approved provider. Enrichment teachers (music, art, theater, etc.), school counselors, and certified ESL teachers are not required to earn the SEI endorsement. Veritas Prep will send out information about available courses during staff orientation.
