Student Spotlight: Daniel Zapata
Daniel has big dreams to play D1 sports in college, but also knows he must prioritize academics for his future success.

“My teachers and coaches care and are super passionate. They hold me accountable for everything because they know I have a lot of potential”
The Outcome
A 9th grader, Daniel decided the summer before high school that he needed to “get serious” about his academic performance. He has big dreams of one day being a D1 athlete at Syracuse University, but also realizes that excelling in sports is not his only responsibility.
Daniel is hoping to study computer science in college, because he loves playing video games and has always been interested in technology. Daniel set a goal for himself to earn As in all of his classes, and so far has been successful! As he looks ahead to Spring semester, he is excited to take his first Early College course in Computer Science. Daniel credits the support of his teachers and basketball coaches in holding him accountable as a leader.
Speaking about his teachers and coaches he says, “They care and are super passionate. They hold me accountable for everything because they know I have a lot of potential”. His basketball coach says Daniel is a super-leader: “He leads by example. He’s vocal about it, and he’ll let his team know what the right way to act is. School is the most important thing to him, even though he loves sports. He recognizes that what Veritas offers, you can’t get it anywhere else.”
