Student Spotlight: Joseph Canala de la Cruz
When Joseph joined Veritas Prep Charter School as an 8th grader from the Dominican Republic, he faced an overwhelming challenge—learning English. Arriving in a new country and new school, Joseph struggled in all subjects and found it difficult to communicate and connect with others.
“When I came here, I felt bad because it was all new for me. Now, I feel good because my family is here with me and I know more English. My grades have gone up. Veritas has helped me.”
The Outcome
Despite initial difficulties, Joseph’s determination and resilience have driven his success. He dedicated himself to learning English, knowing it was the key to achieving his goals. Through consistent effort and support from teachers and peers at Veritas Prep, Joseph’s grades have improved significantly.
Joseph’s progress extends beyond academics. He has gained confidence in using English in everyday conversations, making it easier to participate in class and build friendships. His transformation is a testament to the power of hard work, community, and the supportive environment at Veritas Prep.
